Hiding a Hanging Sink

A hanging sink, or one that mounts directly to the wall, may have exposed pipes and an overall unattractive appearance. This type of sink may inadvertently become a focal point of a room when it’s present in a non-traditional setting, such as along the wall of a studio apartment. Select a potential option for hiding the sink based on the décor of the room.

Instructions

    • 1

Hide the hanging sink behind a room divider, such as a paper shoji screen, which is light-weight and simple to move out of the way when you need access. Unfold it and arrange it so it conceals the sink from all vantage points.

Create a curtain wall that hangs from the ceiling and drapes across the sink, which will hide it from view. Mount one eyehook on each of the walls opposite the sink. Position them so they’re both beyond the depth of the sink. Span a wire between the two hooks and attach curtains to them. Keep the curtains closed to hide the hanging sink.

Drape a piece of fabric over the sink as an economical quick-fix in hiding it. Select a decorative fabric piece that matches existing upholstery or drapery in the room so it blends in.

Build a cover from plywood that hides the hanging sink. Measure from the floor to several inches above the sink, as well as the depth and width. Cut three plywood panels based on your measurements, which will serve as the sides and front of the cover. Cut an additional one to serve as the top of the cover. Nail the pieces together. Cover with a high-gloss paint for shine or a paint that matches the walls for continuity of appearance. Slip over the hanging sink. Use as a shelf for displaying decorative accessories if you don't plan to use the sink.
