Instructions

    • 1

Lay a plastic drop cloth on the floor or outside. Set a wooden table or chair on the drop cloth. Prepare the wooden surface for painting by sanding the surface.

    • 2
Colorful paint livens up boring furniture.

Apply a coat of primer to the wood to further prepare the surface. Allow the primer to dry for at least 24 hours. Spice up the wood with one to two coats of a bright or funky colored paint. Let the paint air-dry for 24 hours.

    • 3

Decorate boring glass-top, vinyl or plastic furniture with self-adhesive wall decals. Use letters to add your favorite phrase or saying, or use decal pictures to make a theme-based or eye-catching statement.

    • 4

Change the hardware on end table or coffee table drawers. A colorful or unique-shaped drawer handle can liven up a boring table drawer.

    • 5

Use a colorful silk or satin scarf as a funky alternative for a small tablecloth.

    • 6
An old quilt adds to the look of a couch or chair.

Purchase vintage 1960s and 1970s afghans or quilts from a thrift store to drape over the back of a boring couch and add a splash of fun.

Toss a mixture of small and large decorative pillows onto a couch or chair. Combine striped, floral and patchwork designs for a unique mix.
