# How to Insert a Nail Into a Headboard
Whether you're installing or repairing a headboard, you may need a nail to complete the job. Inserting a nail into a headboard is much like inserting a nail into any other surface; determine what type of nail you'll need for the project -- a finishing nail to repair or a ring shank nail to install the piece, for example, and hammer the fastener into the headboard.

Determine the location where you want to insert the nail into the headboard. Make a small mark on the location with a pencil, or simply make a mental note of the spot.

Hold the tip of the nail over the point on the headboard where you want to insert the nail with your non-dominate hand.

Hold a hammer in your dominate hand. Bang the hammer on the head of the nail to drive the nail into the headboard. Continue banging the hammer on the nail until the head of the nail is sitting flush on the surface of the headboard.
