Use floor-to-ceiling draperies behind your bed to give the room a more elegant feel and look. Floor-to-ceiling draperies can also make the room seem larger, and you don’t have to have actual floor-to-ceiling windows in order to utilize them. For a more contemporary look, use draperies that don’t have pleats, and stick with heavily pleated draperies for a more traditional feel.
Hang half-curtains or use shutters for a more rustic look in your bedroom. Half-curtains and shutters work best in a larger room since they don’t help to visually expand the room. For a more contemporary look, use Roman shades or vertical blinds made of modern materials like metal.
Avoid putting night tables that are too deep next to your bed in front of your windows. They make it difficult to open and close the windows as weather permits.
Keep objects like lamps and vases with fresh or silk flowers fairly low to keep them out of the way of the windows. There are both functional and aesthetic reasons for this. You could easily knock over and break the items when opening and closing curtains, and if the items are too tall, they will look out of place in front of your window treatments.
Center the bed under the window as much as possible. If the bed is the first thing you see when you walk into the room, putting the bed off-center will make the room and its decor appear askew. Even if your windows are a bit off-center, centering the bed in front of the windows looks best overall.
