How to Hang Patio Curtains on a Sloped Wall

Made from lightweight fabrics, including muslin and mosquito netting, patio curtains add a decorative touch to your outdoor spaces. If you have sloped walls on your patio, you cannot use traditional curtain rod brackets, as these are only suitable for flat walls. By using some creativity, you can hang the outdoor curtains, while still maintaining the clean look of a curtain rod. Use the patio curtains to create your own private space outside.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Electric drill
  • 2 plastic anchors
  • 2 heavy-duty screw-in hooks
  • Airport cable
  • 2 rope clips
  • Knife or wire cutters

Instructions

    • 1

Mark two spots in the patio's ceiling or roof above the sloped wall, indicating the placement of your curtain supports. Measure the distance between the two spots, making sure that when closed, the curtains cover the gap between the spots.

    • 2

Drill through each spot approximately 1 inch into the ceiling. Slide a plastic screw anchor into each hole, then screw a heavy-duty hook into each one. The heavy-duty hooks support the weight of the curtains, while the anchors keep the hooks from slipping out of the ceiling.

    • 3

Measure a section of airport cable that's the same length as the distance between the hooks, then add 6 inches to your measurement. Unscrew the bottom of a rope clip, thread the cable through and screw the bottom back onto the piece. Unscrew a second rope clip and thread the opposite end of the cable through, but leave the bottom open.

    • 4

Slide the closed rope clip onto the screw-in hook on the left side of the wall. Attach your patio curtains to the cable by sliding the grommets over the cable. Slide the open rope clip over the second hook.

    • 5

Pull the cable gently through the other side of the clip until the cable sits evenly across the hooks without any sagging. Cut off the excess cable with a knife or wire cutters. The curtains will hang down, blocking the sloped wall of the patio behind the fabric.
