Instructions

    • 1

Decide how you want to incorporate the nailheads on the chair. For example, you can use the nailheads around the back of the frame to accentuate the shape of the chair, or you can use them to create a design in the base of the chair. If you are going to create a design in the base of the chair, proceed to Step 2. If you want to use the nailheads along the frame of the chair, proceed to Step 3.

    • 2

Measure the part of the chair where you wish to add the nailheads, such as the base or the outer back of the chair. Cut a piece of butcher paper that is equal to the size of the chosen area. Draw the pattern or design that you want to create with the nailheads on the butcher paper. Tape the butcher paper to the selected location.

    • 3

Gently tap a nailhead into the surface of the chair with a rubber mallet. Start at the end of the location that you want to decorate, such as the bottom of the frame of the chair or the edge of the design. If you're transferring a design onto the chair, hammer the nailheads through the paper into the chair.

Set the next nailhead next to the previous nailhead and gently tap it into the chair with a rubber mallet. Continue adding the nailheads to the chair, positioning them next to the last nailhead placed in the chair, until you have decorated the chair to your liking.

Remove the butcher paper from the chair. Pull off the tape and gently pull the bottom of the paper down, tearing the paper out from under the nailheads. Use tweezers to remove any visible paper that remains around the nailheads.
