How to Make an Illuminating Liquor Bottle Display for on the Stairs

Create your own illuminating liquor bottle display on your home's stairwell as holiday decorations or as a lit display for any time of year. Decorate the liquor bottles if desired with assorted paints in solid colors, designs or patterns or leave them in their original states. You also have the option of decorating the bottles with glitter glue to further add to the sparkly nature of the display. Use small, twinkling lights to create your display, as the low voltage of these lights will not result in potential fire hazards.

Instructions

    • 1

Count the number of stairs on the staircase where you will be making the display. Assemble your liquor bottles and place them on the stairs to determine how you would like your display to look. For example, use larger bottles on middle steps where they will be most visible, and smaller bottles on upper steps that are less noticeable when viewing the display.

Wash each bottle you plan to use to remove all traces of liquor. Discard all caps and remove paper labels if desired with warm water.

    • 3

Use a small drill and a bit designed for glass to make small holes in the back bottom of each liquor bottle. The holes should be large enough to thread twinkling lights through. Wear protective goggles, long sleeves and gloves while working to prevent injury from small glass shards. Perform this action in your garage or other area where carpeting is not present to avoid leaving small glass shards in carpet fibers.

Thread the twinkling lights through the holes in the liquor bottles. Start with the first or second light at one end of the light rope and carefully thread the light through the hole so it points upward towards the bottle's opening. Once the light has been successfully threaded through, place it on the bottom or second-to-bottom step, then move on to the next bottle and the next step. Have a few friends or family members hold the bottles while you work to avoid moving and possibly breaking finished bottles as you work your way up the stairs.

Connect the light strand's plug(s) to outlets at the top or bottom of the stairs, or both if needed.
