Do-It-Yourself Twin Canopy Beds

A plain twin bed can be brought to life by adding a canopy. Canopies add visual interest, texture and color to the bedroom, and create an inviting space in which to sleep. While buying a canopy frame for a twin bed can be costly, creating your own is a cheaper alternative. All you need are some basic supplies from a craft store.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Position the twin bed at your desired location in the room. Take a measurement that spans from the floor to ceiling alongside the bed. Add an additional 2 feet, which allows you to drape the fabric around the bed.

    • 2

Open and separate the two rings of an 18-inch embroidery hoop. Set the outer ring aside. Cut four strips of decorative, but sturdy ribbon to a length of 10 inches long. Tie them at equal intervals around the inner ring, knotting them at the end. Gather the ribbons and knot the four of them together at the center of the ring.

    • 3

Fold 4 inches of the fabric strips over the embroidery hoop’s outer ring. Space the strips evenly around, bunching as necessary to fit. Stick the inner hoop into the outer hoop and tighten to secure the fabric in place.

Locate the center of the ceiling above the twin bed. Drill a pilot hole into the ceiling and screw a pot rack hook in place. Hang the fabric canopy from the bow in the center of the hoop. Drape each fabric piece around the twin bed’s head until even.
