How to Glue False Fronts on Cabinets

Breathe new life into your kitchen by updating the look of your cabinets. Instead of replacing your cabinets with new ones, which can be quite costly, attach false fronts to the doors of the existing cabinets. False fronts are an economically friendly way to give your kitchen a completely new look, and the project is simple enough for you to complete on your own. Simply purchase false fronts that suit your taste, and you can revamp the look of your kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the doors from the kitchen cabinets. Unscrew any hardware on the doors, including hinges and door pulls. Lay the door face-up on a flat surface.

    • 2

Sand down the surface of the cabinet door with medium-grit sandpaper. This roughens up the door, allowing the glue to easily adhere to the surface.

    • 3

Wipe down the surface of the cabinet door with a clean, damp cloth to remove sawdust and any debris.

    • 4

Apply super-adhesive wood glue along the edges of the front of the cabinet door. Apply the glue to the center of the door, forming the shape of an "X." Apply a horizontal line of glue through the center of the "X."

    • 5

Place the false front on top of the cabinet door so that it is centered on the door. Firmly push on the false front to create a bond between the glue, the front of the cabinet door and the false front.

    • 6

Wipe off any excess glue that may seep out from underneath the false front along the sides of the cabinet door with a damp cloth. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours before installing hardware and rehanging the doors on the cabinets.
