How to Install Fabric for a Basement Wall

Finishing a basement adds valuable square footage to your home. If you're interested in finishing your basement, but you don't have the resources to cover the concrete walls with drywall, cover them with fabric. Fabric is an economical way to dress up and add warmth to concrete basement walls. Choose a type of fabric that coordinates with the design you want to infuse into the space and with a few supplies, you can complete this do-it-yourself project.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut slits in the top of the fabric with a craft knife, working in 3- to 4-foot wide sections. Make a 1-inch slit 1-inch from each of the edges of the fabric and make a slit in the center of the fabric. Make the slits about 1-inch down from the top of the fabric.

    • 2

Use a measuring tape to measure the distance between each of the slits on the fabric. Hold the measuring tape up to the top of the wall and use a marker to make marks on the wall at each of the points where the slits fall on the fabric.

    • 3

Attach clear, self-adhesive, 1/2-inch hooks over each of the marks on the wall.

    • 4

Place the slits on the fabric over each of the hooks on the wall.

    • 5

Continue the process until all of the walls of the basement are covered with fabric.
