Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a roll of decorative contact paper in a color or print that coordinates with the room you're using the art in. For example, if you're creating word wall art for a baby girl's bedroom, consider pink contact paper, or if you're using the art in a contemporary room, opt for paper that has features a geometric print.

Place a piece of cardboard on the top of a flat surface. Unroll the contact paper, face down, on top of the cardboard-covered surface.

    • 3

Lay letter stencils on the back of the contact paper to spell out the words you plan to use in your word wall art. Place the letters backward on the contact paper so that they are facing the right direction when they are cut out; for example, position an "b" so that the hump is pointing to the left instead of the right. Select a stencil in a size and font that suits your taste. Lightly trace around each of the stencils with a pencil or a fine-tipped marker. Alternatively, you can print your own letters, if you wish.

Cut the letters out with a craft knife. Move the knife slowly around the letters to create even cuts. The cardboard underneath the contact paper will protect the flat surface you are cutting on.

Gently peel the cut out letters from the contact paper. To hang the letters, peel the protective paper off of the back of the contact paper and place the sticky side of the paper on the wall.
