DIY Mirror Frame Fabric

A simple way to jazz up a boring wood-framed mirror is with fabric. As a budget-friendly approach, use leftover pieces of fabric from other craft projects. You can customize the mirrors to reflect any type of home decor scheme, from shabby chic to elegant. Use fabrics featuring colors and designs that complement the overall look of a room as a personalized touch. The hand-decorated mirrors also make charming birthday, holiday and housewarming gifts.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a framed mirror down on the back side of a piece of fabric. Choose a fabric color that reflects the overall decor theme of a room, such as turquoise for a beach-inspired space. Pick a luxe burgundy velvet fabric for an elegant look.

    • 2

Trace around the frame, allowing 2 extra inches on each side. Mark the dimensions with a pencil or marker. Cut the material along the marked lines using fabric scissors.

    • 3

Cover the perimeter of the frame with strips of fabric glue. Press the cut-to-fit piece of fabric onto the frame and press down to create a secure fit. Wrap the excess fabric around the frame and secure it to the back of the mirror with fabric glue.

    • 4

Use a craft knife and a metal ruler or similar straight edge to cut out the center of the fabric, along the inside of the frame, to reveal the mirror glass.

Enhance the mirror frame by gluing small embellishments, such as seashells or vintage buttons, to the fabric if you desire.
