How to Make a Shallow Entryway Storage

The entryway of your home is the first thing people see when they cross your threshold. Because of this, the area should be kept free and clear. An entryway also serves as a place where people can shed their outer garments and store them until they leave. When you want to maximize the storage possibilities of your shallow entryway, it's important to make the most out of the space you have.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a coat rack directly next to the door on the right. When the door opens, the coat rack is covered; when the door is closed, the coat rack is easily accessible. While you may not have the room to place a closet in a shallow entryway, that unused corner gives you an excellent place to hang coats.

Hang a wooden board studded with pegs on the wall next to the door. The flat profile of a set of wooden pegs allows it to take up a small footprint in your shallow entryway while still giving you a place to set outerwear.

    • 3

Install a set of narrow shelves next to the door to give people a place to leave hats, gloves and scarves as they enter. Give the shelves a festive look by decorating them for the season. Keep the shelves narrow so they don't feel overwhelming as you walk in.

Hang a wall shoe organizer to one wall. While this isn't an elegant solution, it keeps a scramble of shoes from developing in the doorway. Choose an organizer with a color that matches the rest of your home.

    • 5

Place a corner shelving unit in one of the empty corners of your entryway. A corner shelf fits snugly into the juncture of two walls while providing a place to set things as well as store things long-term.
