How to Make Arabian Home Decor

If you're looking to infuse your home with vibrant color and eye-catching decorative accents, consider decorating with an Arabian-theme. Whether you want to pay homage to your Arabic roots, or you simply want to create a stimulating, yet relaxing space, this style of decor is well-suited for you. Opulent decorative accents play a major role in this style, but they can be costly. Instead of purchasing pre-made Arabian-style decor, create your own to give your home a personalized and striking look.

Instructions

  1. Decorative Lanterns

    • 1

Clean out, remove any labels and completely dry glass jars. Large baby food jars, pasta sauce jars and other types of larger food jars, such as salsa, are well-suited for this project.

    • 2

Apply gold or silver puff paint onto the outer surface of the jar. Use the applicator tip on the puff paint squeeze bottle to create a decorative pattern; dots around the base of the jar, vertical scroll lines from the top to the bottom of the jar, for example. Look at images of Moroccan or Arabian style lamps for inspiration for your design. Allow the puff paint to dry for 12 to 24 hours.

    • 3

Place a few drops, or about 1/4 teaspoon of colorful glass paint inside the glass jar. Colors to consider using include green, blue, orange, red and yellow. Insert an artists paintbrush inside the jar to paint the interior of the jar. Allow the glass paint to dry for 12 to 24 hours.

    • 4

Set a tea light inside the jar, creating a warm and eye-catching glow in your home.

    Mosaic Mirror

    • 5

Purchase a mirror that contains a frame that is at least 4 inches wide.

    • 6

Lay a sheet of paper over the mirror and tape it in place to protect it.

    • 7

Sand the surface of the frame with medium-grit sandpaper. Wipe off the frame with a damp cloth to remove the sawdust.

    • 8

Purchase inexpensive and colorful plates from a thrift store or a home supply store. Colors to consider include bright yellow, turquoise and magenta. Lay a towel on a flat surface and place a plate on the towel. Fold the towel over the plate and gently bang it with a rubber mallet. Set the broken pieces of plate aside.

    • 9

Arrange the broken pieces of plate around the frame of the mirror until you create a design that you are satisfied with.

    • 10

Remove one piece of plate at a time. Apply a small amount of tile adhesive glue to the back of the piece and replace it on the frame. Glue all of the plate pieces to the frame in this manner. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.

    • 11

Apply pre-mixed tile grout in a color of your choice -- white or gray, for example -- to the surface of the frame with a tile floater. Work the grout between the plate pieces.

    • 12

Wipe the surface of the mirror frame with a damp sponge while the grout is still wet to remove the grout from the surface of the plate pieces.

    • 13

Allow the grout to set for 24 to 36 hours.
