Instructions

  1. Make an Apothecary Jar

    • 1

Match a glass jar with a glass candlestick in a similar style. Use candlesticks that have wide, flat tops, so you will have a larger surface to glue.

    • 2

Apply a circle of craft glue to the top rim of the candlestick. Glues designed for use on glass are available at most craft stores.

    • 3

Place the candlestick upright on a flat surface. Stand the center of the bottom of the glass jar on top of it. Allow the glue to dry.

    Decorate Apothecary Jars

    • 4

Fill each jar with flowers that suit its size and shape. For example, put a single orchid inside a tall, narrow jar; spread a wide daisy bouquet inside a squat, bulbous jar; or stand a cluster of tulips inside a cylindrical jar. Let the shape of the jar dictate what goes inside it.

    • 5

Pack the base of the jar with a vase filler to help the flowers stand up, if necessary. Coordinate the filler with the type of flower. For example, if you have tropical blossoms in your jar, pack the bottom with sand and seashells; for a jar of wildflowers, fill the base with mulch or dirt; or to support a rose or two, pour glass pebbles into the base.

    • 6

Change the type of flower in each jar according to the season. Use wildflowers in the spring, cultivated blossoms in the summer, orange flowers with green leaves in the fall and holly or poinsettias in the winter.

    • 7

Fill a jar with dried flowers to play on the classic apothecary look. Place it on a kitchen shelf to look like medicinal herbs or tea, or set it in the bathroom to act as potpourri.
