Display a decorative collection on the soffits. Hang plates on plate hangers or nail baskets onto the large soffits, turning them into an attractive showcase. Arrange the items in a pattern or in a particular order alternating colors, columns or rows creating a cohesive look. Alternatively, hang them on the soffits in a haphazard manner.
Cover the soffit with wallpaper. Choose a wallpaper type that features a color scheme or pattern that coordinates with the design of your kitchen -- gingham for a country look is an example. Measure the soffits’ height with a measuring tape and cut the wallpaper in sections fitting the measurement. Apply the wallpaper to the soffit in small sections using wallpaper paste until the entire soffit is covered.
Install veneers over the soffits. For a traditional look, opt for brick veneers; for a rustic look, choose stone veneers. Apply mortar to the soffits’ surface and let it dry for 24 hours. Apply mortar to the veneer’ back and set them onto the mortar-covered soffits. Filling in the gaps between the veneers with grout completes the project.
