Decorate the walls to create a backdrop for the area. Pastel paint colors add an aged look to the area. Alternatively, you can hang wallpaper in the space that features a vintage print, such as toile or fleur de lis. If you like the look of wallpaper but don't want to over-saturate the space, hang a wallpaper boarder around the top of the ceiling and paint the rest of the walls a color that coordinates with the wallpaper.
Delineate the space with an area rug. Choose a solid-colored neutral rug in a color that coordinates with the walls. For durability, select a rug treated with a stain-resistant chemical to allow for easy cleaning if spills occur.
Furnish the nook with vintage-inspired pieces. Use antique or thrift store finds, or purchase new items that have been built with a distressed look. A whitewashed table and mismatched wooden chairs and a distressed wood table with bench seating are examples of furniture to use in this space.
Hang a vintage light fixture over the table to provide lighting for the space. A wrought iron or brass chandelier that features delicate lampshades is well-suited for this look.
Display decorative accents on the walls. Hang a collection of decorative vintage plates or baskets on the walls. Display black-and-white or sepia photographs. Hang aged shelves on the walls and display collectibles on top of them.
