How to Make a Floor-to-Ceiling Wall-Attached Room Divider

A floor-to-ceiling room divider lets you segment the area into different sections, whether you live in a small studio and want a separate sleeping area or have a large office space that you wish to divide. While there are different types of room dividers available, sticking to one that’s lightweight makes it easier to handle when the size is so big. A wall-attached fabric room divider provides a solution. Grab a helper to assist in putting one up.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the space between the two walls where you wish to divide the room. Add 10 inches to this number. Cut a piece of high-tension airplane wire to the length of the measurement and set aside.

    • 2

Drill a pilot hole into the wall approximately 1 inch below the ceiling at the point where you want the room divider. Screw one eyehook into place in the pilot hole.

    • 3

Hold a laser level up to the eyehook so it goes directly across the room, hitting the opposite wall. Have an assistant mark this spot with a pencil. Repeat the drilling and eyehook installation at this marked spot.

    • 4

Thread the high-tension airplane wire through one of the eyehooks. Fold it over 5 inches onto the long section of wire and secure them together with wire rope clips. Repeat this process in the other eyehook, pulling the wire as tight as possible.

Install a row of curtain clips across the wire. Clip floor-to-ceiling curtains in place or use a large section of fabric. Pull the curtains out to divide the room.
