DIY Gravity Wine Rack

A simple bottle of wine can perform a magic trick of sorts when you hold it in a gravity wine rack or bottle holder. Because this special wine rack consists of a single piece of wood, cutting angles and accurate measurement are crucial to getting the wine bottle to hang in midair so the cork stays moist. While anyone can make this rack in less than an hour, take your time to ensure you cut the wood just the right way to make the gravity wine rack work.

  • Wooden board, at least 1 by 3 inches, 9 inches long

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your board and mark it to only 2 3/4 inches wide and 8 1/4 inches long. Cut the board along your drawn lines.

    • 2

Select one end of the board to be your top and one end to the bottom. Cut the bottom end of the board on a 40-degree angle. This will leave one side of the board longer and make the other side slightly shorter.

    • 3

Measure from the angled bottom of the longer side upward by 6 5/8 inches. Mark this point where it hits the center of the board’s 2 3/4-inch width. Drill a hole centered over the marked point 1 3/16 inches in diameter.

    • 4

Sand over the wood of the board along all sides and along the rim of the drilled hole.

    • 5

Rest the board on the angled end to aim the longer side upwards. Slide the wine bottle’s neck through the hole starting on the longer and side and coming out the shorter side. The weight of the wine should keep the board on an angle and the bottle held horizontally.
