Hickory White Wood Finishes

Hickory White is a furniture company that has been in business for over 100 years. Furniture made by Hickory White is crafted from a variety of solid woods and veneers. Pieces from Hickory White come in a variety of styles that range from old world classic furniture to contemporary. Some pieces at Hickory White may be customized, allowing buyers to choose the finish right for their home.
  1. Natural Wood Finishes

    • Hickory White wooden furniture comes in a variety of mid-tone natural finishes. Some of these finishes, like walnut and driftwood, have a grayer quality to them. Furniture made from these finishes will look best in a room decorated in cool colors. Other finishes like verona, low country and G2, have a warmer quality, making them perfect for rooms decorated in other warm-colored woods.

    Gray Finishes

    • Hickory White has a number of finishes that are smokey-gray in color. Some of these finishes, like graphite, have an opaque quality that prevents the wood grain from showing through the piece. Other finishes, like stone, allow the wood grain to show through. These two finishes have nearly the same coloring, but the visibility of the woodgrain in one completely changes the character of the two finishes. Gray furniture is subtle in appearance and works best in rooms with more gray in them, whether the color appears in the paint on the walls, the curtains or the pillows, or other furniture. In general, gray pairs best with cool colors, so the rest of the room is best decorated in blues, greens or even purple.

    Whites

    • A number of finishes offered by Hickory White are white or off-white. While the cream finish will pair best with a room with warm colors in it, finishes like sugar are a solid white and thus will pair best with cooler colored rooms. Some of these finishes, like silkwood and old world, have the pitted, grainy quality of natural wood, despite being extremely light in color. These more natural woods will work nicely in rooms that have been decorated in other natural wood finishes--even if the wood finish is somewhat darker.

    Blacks

    • There are a few finishes that are so dark that they are nearly black. Like the whites, some of these finishes show the natural grain of the wood, while others are basically opaque. These brown-black finishes contrast nicely in rooms that have white or cream colored fabrics and walls. Place furniture with these finishes in rooms with a lot of natural light to prevent the room from becoming too dark.
