Handmade Wooden Baby Door Hangers

Door hangers hung on doorknobs or doors provide information or decoration. Use baby door hangers to share information about a new baby or to inform guests of a sleeping baby. Whether making your own handmade wooden baby door hanger or a door hanger for a baby shower gift, choose among common crafting materials to create the look you want for your hanger.
  1. Paint

    • A painted piece of wood can be used to create a handmade baby door hanger. Pre-cut wood is available at craft stores. Use acrylic paint for this project. For example, paint the wood blue for a boy or pink for a girl. Write words on the door hanger with paint pens. For example, “Shhhh, baby sleeping” warns guests to be quiet. For a new baby, write the details of the baby’s birth, such as date of birth, weight, length and name. Make the door hanger sparkle by painting a thin layer of glue on it and sprinkling it with glitter. Shake off excess glitter.

    Fabric

    • Cover a wooden door hanger using felt or fabric. For a basic door hanger, cover a piece of wood with cloth. Cut the letters for the word “baby” out of felt and use craft glue to attach them to the cloth fabric piece. Glue a piece of yarn in a loop to the back of the hanger to go over the doorknob. Write the baby’s name or use colors that match the baby’s room decorations.

    Paper

    • Cover a piece of wood using scrapbooking supplies to create a door hanger. Cover the wood with baby-themed scrapbook paper and attach baby-themed stickers and pictures. For a door hanger for the front door, write “STOP, please do not ring the door bell — baby sleeping” and attach a picture of a sleeping baby. This type of door hanger is ideal for parents with a newborn who are likely to receive several visitors.

    Decoupage

    • Decoupage paper to a piece of wood to create a baby door hanger. Decoupage glue is available at a craft store. Tear the tissue paper into strips and use a paintbrush to apply glue to the strips, then adhere them to the wood. The more layers of tissue paper you use, the brighter the color will be. Go with the traditional blue or pink, or choose colors of tissue paper that match the baby’s room. Staple a piece of craft wire to the back of the wood to hang on the door. If you want to write on the door hanger, use puff paint.
