Hiding a Wet Bar

A wet bar provides a convenient serving spot for entertaining, but you might want to hide the area when it's not in use. The setup of the wet bar area affects how you can hide the space. The ideal cover-up for the wet bar allows the space to blend in with the rest of the room's decor.
  1. Curtains

    • For a soft look to the wet bar covering, hang a pair of curtain panels to cover the area. Curtains easily slide back and forth, so you can use the wet bar when needed without a complicated process. Mount a curtain rod above the wet bar opening with the brackets wide enough to allow the curtains to be opened fully. This allows the entire wet bar area to be exposed at once when it is in use. Choose curtains or fabric that complements the rest of the room so the area doesn't stand out.

    Doors

    • For a built-in look, a set of wood doors is an option for hiding the wet bar. When not in use, the wet bar area simply looks like a closet or built-in storage unit. A set of two doors is often the easiest option. If you already have doors on the lower portion of the wet bar on the cupboards, you can install half doors that cover the top portion above the countertop to finish covering the area. You end up with a set of lower and upper doors to cover the space. Choose the same material and hardware for both sets of doors.

    Screens

    • If you don't want to mess with attaching structures to the wall, a home divider screen is a way to hide your wet bar when it is not in use. Choose a screen that is tall and wide enough to hide the entire wet bar area. When you're ready to use the wet bar, simply move the screen off to the side temporarily.

    Furniture Placement

    • Your furniture placement is another consideration when you want to hide the wet bar. Set up the seating in the room to face away from the wet bar so people aren't as likely to notice it. A large piece of furniture near the wet bar hides the view. Place the piece so you still have access to the wet bar while making it less visible from the main portion of the room. You can also make the area seem less noticeable by painting it the same color as the surrounding wall so it blends in.
