Do-It-Yourself Ring Canopy

A ring canopy can instantly add romance, luxury and elegance to your bedroom. Even if you don't have a standard canopy bed, you can still add the luxurious look of a canopy. Ring canopies are made from decorative pieces of fabric that drape down onto the floor at the four corners of your bed. The canopy resembles four bed posts and can be made from many different colors to match the decor of your bedroom. It transforms a plain bed into a decorative piece of furniture.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure four ceiling hooks to the ceiling. Use ceiling hooks that match the color of the ceiling, so they are less obvious. Attach the hooks above each of the four corners of your bed. Manually screw the hooks in or drill the holes before screwing in the hooks.

    • 2

Hang a metal or wooden ring on each of the hooks. Use medium-size rings that offer sufficient space to hold the fabric.

    • 3

Use a fabric color and texture that matches the room. Use cotton, silk or mosquito net to make your canopy.

    • 4

Estimate the amount of fabric you need for each of the four panels. Measure the distance between the floor and the ceiling of your bedroom. Add 1 foot to this measurement, and multiply your answer by 2. For instance, if the distance from the floor to the ceiling measures 10 feet, add 1 foot to this. Multiply 11 by 2 to get 22 feet, which is approximately 7 yards of fabric per panel.

    • 5

Drape a panel of fabric through one of the rings and allow the ends to bunch onto the floor. Complete all four rings in this fashion.
