How to Make a Miniature Sink for the Laundry or Garage

A miniature sink can be made out of many kinds of water-tight containers. This makes it easier to fabricate a sink out of items you are likely to have around the house. The best place to look for inspiration is the kitchen. Deep glass, porcelain and metal containers can all be converted into sinks. Look for a container in the shape and size that will fit the area you have available. You can support the sink with a small wood table.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your sink container vessel on the work table. Mark the location of the drain hole in the bottom of the container.

    • 2

Drill a 3 1/2-inch drain hole in the bottom of the container. Use the correct bit type for the material of your container. It is possible to drill a hole in metal, plastic, ceramic and glass. Wear eye protection when drilling.

    • 3

Turn the container upside down over a piece of paper. Trace the outline of the sink. If the container has a lip to the outside it can be mounted on top of and flush with the top of a table. If the container has tapered sides you can allow the taper to hold the container in place by cutting your table opening smaller than the rim of the container. For a straight sided container you can drill a hole larger than the plumbing connectors and simply rest the container on the table top. Adjust your drawing based on the type of container you are using.

Cut out your paper template for the type of hole you want for your support table. Position the table in the location where you want to install it. Check the location of your plumbing. Mark the location of your sink drain on the table. Use the paper template to determine the shape and position the table-top hole. Draw the shape on the table.

Drill a hole inside your shape. Use a jigsaw to cut out the shape. Attach your sink to the table using plumbing putty, caulk or adhesive.
