How to Starting Small Super Hammock

The Starting Small Super Hammock is a brand of miniature hammock designed for storing toys such as stuffed animals. The hammock hangs in the corner of a child's bedroom and can be filled with things that would otherwise clutter the floor and bed. Though the Super Hammock sells for less than $20, you may prefer to make your own toy hammock. This can be made from a series of knotted twine loops, capable of expanding to store any number of furry friends.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie a metal ring to a secure position, such as a chair leg or doorknob. Load your netting shuttle with twine and tie the free end to the ring. Place an approximately 2-inch-wide piece of plywood horizontally at the base of the ring, to serve as a mesh stick for measuring the size of your loops.

    • 2

Loop the twine around the mesh stick from front to back, pulling the shuttle up between the ring and the top edge of the stick to the right of the twine. Pull it down through the ring and up between the two strands below the ring. Tug the twine tight and then wrap it around the ring on the right and up through the middle, looping it through itself. Tighten the twine again to lock the twine loop into position.

    • 3

Make 14 more such loops along the ring and pull the mesh stick carefully out. Turn the ring over so the shuttle is on the left and position the mesh stick just beneath the row of loops. Make another row, this time connecting the loops to those in the row above them rather than to the metal ring. Knot 17 such rows.

    • 4

Position the second metal ring beneath the mesh stick for the last row. Cross the twine over the top of the mesh stick, down through the ring, out to the right and behind the first strand of twine, making a loop. Pull the twine around behind the ring, up through it and through the twine loop, pulling it tight to lock into position. Continue with the rest of the row until every loop is tied to the ring.

    • 5

Tie two 30-inch strands of twine between the two rings, each one passing through the outer row of loops on both sides of the net. This will give the hammock a bit of gather, making it easier to store toys. Drive nails or hook-eyes into two walls near the corner and hang the hammock on them by the rings. Fill with stuffed animals.
