How to Hang a Mist Fountain

Mist fountains serve dual functions — adding beauty and serenity to your room while humidifying and removing dust particles and bacteria from the air. The hanging variety of mist fountains provides a shepherd's hook on which the mist fountain is suspended, similar to a hanging flower basket. The hanging mist fountain comes in tabletop versions and floor versions depending on size. For your hanging mist fountain, assemble the shepherd's hook unit or hang the mist fountain basket from the ceiling with additional hardware.

Instructions

  1. Shepherd's Hook Mist Fountain

    • 1

Place the shepherd's hook stand where you want the mist fountain to be displayed. A small hanging fountain stand fits on tabletops while a larger unit stands on the floor.

    • 2

Hook the mist fountain onto the shepherd's hook with the hardware that comes with the fountain. This may be a link of chain or an S-type hook.

    • 3

Add water to the receptacle at the depth suggested the manufacturer recommends. Too much water or too little will affect the performance of the mist fountain.

    • 4

Plug the cord into a nearby outlet.

    Ceiling Suspension

    • 5

Place a swag hook in the ceiling, first making sure the hook and the ceiling are able to support the weight of the mist fountain. Read the swag hook package to find a compatible hook that supports the weight of your mist fountain.

    • 6

Use a stud finder to locate ceiling studs for attaching the hook to the ceiling. Drill a pilot hole, then insert the swag hook's screw into the pilot hole. Twist the hook clockwise to tighten the hook into the ceiling. Some swag hooks come with the hook and screw separate. Insert one end of the screw into the hook and the other end into the pilot hole. Twist the screw clockwise.

Use a toggle bolt to attach the swag hook when you can't place your hanging mist fountain on a stud. Drill a hole in the ceiling large enough to admit the toggle bolt with its wings folded back. Place the hook on the toggle screw. Insert the toggle bolt into the drilled hole. The wings will spring open, spanning the hole. Turn the hook screw clockwise until the hook is flush with the ceiling.

Place the hanging mist fountain on the hook with an S-style hook or any hardware that comes with the mist fountain.
