Ideas for Room Partition Curtains on Runners

Though room partition curtains come in framed, freestanding models, runners are frequently used for such curtains. Runners are attached to premade holes in the curtain's fabric and allow you to easily spread the curtain or push it back when not in use. Use room partition curtains on runners to divide residential or commercial spaces.
  1. Vinyl

    • Use vinyl for room partitions to create separations in commercial spaces, such as industrial warehouses, artists' workshops, or hospitals. Residential applications include use in basements, such as for separating a basement work room from a play or rec room. Use vinyl partition curtains to create separations in garages, such as for creating separations between cars for paint jobs or automotive work.

    Lightweight Curtains

    • Use lightweight curtains on runners as decorative pieces rather than for creating defined spaces in rooms. Though they still represent the dividing of space in a room, lightweight curtains do not provide much in the way of privacy. Use them for creating changing space in a bedroom, though refrain from hanging sheerer fabrics if using them for this purpose. Find fabrics that match the color scheme of the room to create a pretty space in a living room or den.

    Drapery

    • Use heavy drapes when purchasing or constructing room partition curtains to create more severe separations. Lightweight curtains work when you want simply to divide space in an attractive way, but heavy drapes provide more privacy and the thickness of the fabric provides a sound barrier. Use them to divide space in guest bedrooms or children's rooms to give guests or children a sense of privacy lightweight curtains cannot provide. Choose deep, rich colors for guest bedrooms and similar areas, and brighter colors for decorating children's rooms or play areas.

    DIY Options

    • Make room partition curtains by reusing assorted fabrics to create a collage effect. Sew fabric from old sheets, other curtains, jeans, bed skirts, T-shirts, dresses or any other fabric you have on hand. Use a heavier or reinforced fabric at the top of the curtain to avoid tugging and ripping of thinner fabrics when the partition is moved. Use fabric glue to attach embellishments to homemade room partition curtains, such as pieces of old wallpaper, beads, buttons, faux jewels, and sequins. Display your curtain as an art piece in your home or use it for practical purposes.
