Instructions

    • 1

Cover the floor of the roof with an outdoor area rug. These rugs can withstand the elements and add warm and add visual appeal to the space.

    • 2

Furnish the roof with outdoor pieces. Materials to consider include wicker, rattan, wrought iron and resin. Choose comfortable pieces such as a couch or sofa, arm chairs and chaise lounges. Add a coffee table and end tables to the set up, as well. Position the pieces so that they create inviting conversation areas on the roof. To add comfort to the seating pieces, top them with weather-resistant cushions in color or patterns that suit your taste.

    • 3

Set up outdoor lighting on the roof. Tiki torches and candles are options that will create a soft, warm glow. Battery operated or solar lanterns are another option for roof top lighting. Set the lighting elements around the perimeter of the roof and on the tabletops.

    • 4

Arrange blankets and pillows on the seating elements. Choose pieces that coordinate or contrast with the cushions on these pieces.

    • 5

Set up outdoor storage bins on the roof. While plastic bins will certainly suffice, consider choosing more decorative bins, such as wicker or rattan, that are designed for outdoor use. These bins will offer storage for cushions, blankets and pillows during inclement weather.

Set out planters filled with colorful plants and foliage. Place the planters on tabletops and on the floor of the roof.
