How to Frame a Closet Doorway

If you have a closet doorway that looks rather plain, frame it with a simple wood trim. Wood trim gives your closet doorway a chance to pop, and using adhesive to secure the trim ensures that it will not interfere with the closet door, whether it is a pocket door, sliding door, bi-fold door or standard door. Frame your closet door using a wood trim that suits your home and your taste.

Instructions

    • 1

Store the wood trim that you are going to be using in the closet or in the room with the closet for at least two days. This allows the wood to swell as much as it is going to and become acclimated to the room.

    • 2

Measure the height of the closet’s doorway and add the width of the trim. This is measurement A.

    • 3

Measure the width of the closet’s doorway and add double the width of the trim. This is measurement B.

    • 4

Cut three lengths of wood trim, two using measurement A and one using measurement B using a saw.

    • 5

Miter both ends of the piece corresponding to measurement B and one end apiece of the strips corresponding to measurement A to 45 degrees using a mitre saw.

    • 6

Apply a thin layer of a clear epoxy adhesive to the flat back of one of the strips of wood trim.

    • 7

Press the trim to the corresponding edge of the doorway.

    • 8

Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other strips of wood. The pieces should fit together like a picture frame.

    • 9

Allow the epoxy to cure for 24 hours.
