Instructions

    • 1

Measure the sides and the top of the entertainment area with a tape measure.

    • 2

Select a type of molding that suits your taste; crown molding or bead molding, for example.

    • 3

Transfer the dimensions from Step 1 onto the lengths of molding with a measuring tape. Use a pencil to mark out the dimensions.

    • 4

Cut the moldings with a miter saw. Make 45 degree inward cuts in the ends of the molding intended for the top of the unit. Make 45 degree outward cuts in the ends of the molding intended for the sides of the unit.

    • 5

Set the piece of molding for the top of the unit in place. Hammer 3-inch finishing nails through the ends of the molding and into the wall. Hammer a 3-inch finishing nail into the center of the molding and into the wall. Install finishing nails every 6 inches between the ends and the center of the strip of molding.

    • 6

Position the pieces of side molding in place, positioning the angles so that they butt up against the angles on the outer edges of the top piece of molding. Hammer a 3-inch finishing nail through the edges and the center of each of the pieces of molding and into the wall. Install nails every 6 inches between the ends and the center of the strips of molding.

Place a nail set over the heads of the nails and tap the nail set with a hammer to drive the heads of the nails deeper into the molding.

    • 8

Apply wood putty over each of the holes left by the nail heads in the molding.
