Building Frames for a Mirrored Door on a Medicine Cabinet

Many craft stores offer lightweight wooden frame components that are suitable to edge a medicine cabinet door. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the outer edge of the mirror. Take these measurements with you to the store when you select the wood molding. Select lightweight pieces with rabbeted edges since they are more likely to stay glued in place on the mirror. Make sure the pieces you select are narrow so they don’t interfere with the opening and closing of the door.

    • 2

Cut the molding to fit the mirror if you didn’t buy pre-cut pieces. Use a miter saw to cut the corners at 45-degree angles.

    • 3

Apply paint or stain to both sides of the wood molding and allow to dry for two weeks. If you don’t color the back of the wood, you will be able to see its plain back reflected in the mirror.

    • 4

Mix equal parts epoxy resin and epoxy hardener together with a wooden craft stick on a piece of scrap cardboard. When the resin and hardener are all the same color, spread the adhesive on the rabbeted groove of the pieces of wood molding.

Set each piece in place around the perimeter of the mirror. Align corner joints. Hold the trim in place until the epoxy dries with several strips of painter’s tape. Wipe off any adhesive that oozes out from between the wood and glass. Let the epoxy dry for the time recommended on the package. Carefully remove the tape.
