Measure your wall space so that you will know how tall an item can be and still fit against your wall. Some older homes have extremely slanted ceilings that only leave a couple of feet between the edge of the ceiling and the floor, making them harder to work with than those that fit a full 8 feet of wall in between ceiling and floor.
Select decor items that will fit against your walls. Small bookshelves and curio cabinets, as well as paintings and pictures, can create a nice decorating theme. If you are having a hard time finding items that will fit against your walls, check out antique furniture items, which tend to be smaller than their modern-day counterparts.
Position your decoration items in your home as desired. Do not be afraid to move items around in order to create the right look.
Paint your ceiling. Because slanted ceilings often take up a significant amount of space, you can bring them into your decorating theme by painting them to accent your room or accentuate your decor and color scheme.
