DIY Making a Porch Into a Sunroom

You enjoy spending time on your porch, but when the weather is cold or damp, the porch is difficult to use. However, you can transform your porch into a sunroom you can use year-round, no matter the weather or temperature. This transformation will allow you enjoy the outdoor view while staying warm and dry. While you may need to hire a contractor to do some of the work, you can certainly put your handyman skills to use for this project.

      Check the structure, including floors and posts, to ensure it is structurally sound. Replace any damaged components such as warped posts.

      Frame the interior portion of the bottom part of the porch walls. Install electrical wires through the framing to accommodate electrical outlets. Install heating in the framed walls.

      Install insulation into the framing and enclose the framing with drywall to create solid interior walls.

      Install energy-efficient, double-paned windows into the top portion of the openings of the porch.

      Insulate the porch floor and cover it with plywood. Install the flooring of your choice over the plywood: carpeting, laminate wood or vinyl tile, for example.

      Furnish the sunroom to make it a comfortable space. Bring in couches, chairs, tables and any other type of furniture you think would be beneficial to the space. Cover the windows with curtains to allow for privacy. Set up lamps to illuminate the room. Set out pictures and collectibles to add your personal touch.
