DIY Deck Decor

Whether your deck surrounds most of your home or is restricted to a small area, it is still an undeniable visual part of your home. A plain deck can make your home look dowdy and dull, but a decorated deck gives your home some pizzazz. Do-it-yourself deck décor does not have to be complicated or expensive. Choose a playful look or an elegant one, depending on your tastes, to give your deck an eye-catching visual overhaul.

Instructions

Place potted plants around your deck. If you don’t have the time for maintenance, use silk plants or those made from plastic. Plants give your deck a more lively look, adding greenery and, if you choose to add flowering plants, bright color. To add some height to your deck, place potted trees around the edges.

String Christmas lights around your deck’s railings. Multi-colored decorative lights can be used for the holidays while white ones can be used year-round to give your deck some gentle illumination. Wind the string of lights around the railings or tape them into place.

Place all-weather pillows on your deck furniture. If you choose large pillows, you can simply leave them on the deck floor and use them as furniture. If you already have outdoor furniture on your deck, scatter small all-weather pillows on the chairs to make them more comfortable. Choose pillows that suit the colors of your home and garden.

Cover part or all of the deck with a sunshade or awning. While these fixtures are useful items, they can also be decorative. For example, match the color of the sunshade to your existing decor or choose a striped sunshade or one with tassels for a more elaborate look.
