How to Bond Tiles to a Quartz Countertop

When you are thinking about reviving an old quartz countertop, one way to provide a new look is to use tile. Tiles come in a wide variety of sizes, and they are colorful, giving a plain quartz countertop a different appearance. Depending on your wishes, you can cover your old quartz countertop completely, or you can simply add a decorative border to the countertop’s edging.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your quartz countertop with soap and water, and allow it to dry thoroughly.

    • 2

Apply a thin coat of tile adhesive to the back of your tile using a paint stirrer or a craft stick. A paint stirrer works well for a larger tile, while a craft stick is appropriate for a small mosaic tile. There are several types of adhesive that can be used for this purpose. A clear epoxy, spread to 3/16-inch thickness across the back of the tile, leaving a 1/2-inch border of tile around the glued area works well. You may also use powerful all-purpose adhesives such as Loctite and Liquid Nails.

    • 3

Press the tile, back first, to the quartz countertop. Ceramic tile is already baked and glazed, and laminate tile has its own protective covering, so you will not need a sealer

    • 4

Repeat until you have created the effect that you wish.

    • 5

Allow the tile adhesive to cure completely. The time required is described on the adhesive’s packaging.
