How to Hide a Pole-Mounted Satellite Dish

Pole-mounted satellite dishes often sit conspicuously in the yard, ruining the landscaping aesthetic you've worked so hard to cultivate. If you're sick of the eyesore, there are several ways to hide the satellite or help it blend into its surroundings. To choose the method that's right for you, ask yourself a few questions about your available space, price points and gardening skills. As long as you keep the satellite dish facing the right direction, you'll find lots of viable options at your disposal.

Instructions

Scout out your property. Look for low or out-of-the-way spots that aren't easily seen from the street or from windows inside the house. Any spot is suitable, as long as the satellite has an unobstructed line to the sky.

Evaluate your gardening skills. You can hide your pole-mounted satellite dish within a circle of tall plants. Look for species that grow well in your area with very little care or supplemental water. Place each plant at least as far away from the satellite dish as half of the mature height of the plant.

Shop around for an artificial cover. Many companies sell artificial rocks that fit over pole-mounted satellite dishes. Other companies sell plastic globes that fit over the dish and light up to make the pole-mounted satellite dish look more like an outdoor lamp.

Move the pole-mounted satellite inside. If there is enough space in your attic to house the satellite, have a plastic window installed in the roof to allow the satellite's signal to escape in the right direction. Or if there is a large, untinted window in your home, you can move the satellite indoors.
