How to Line a Gel Fuel Fireplace

If you have a gel fuel fireplace, then you may be wondering what you can do to line the fireplace in order to add to the design aesthetic of your room. Because you are working with a flammable gel, you cannot line your fireplace with paper or plastic. Instead, use decorative rocks and pebbles.

Things You'll Need

  • Decorative rocks, seashells or beach sand
  • Tape measure
  • Plastic sheeting
  • Pillar candelabra

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a bag of decorative rocks, seashells or beach sand. You will want to make sure the rocks or shells are not covered or painted with any flammable material.

    • 2

Measure the length and width of the inside of the fireplace with a tape measure.

    • 3

Cut a piece of plastic sheeting, which you can purchase from a home construction store, and lay it in the bottom of the fireplace to protect the bottom of the fireplace.

    • 4

Pour the bag of rocks, shells or sand onto the plastic sheeting on the bottom of the fireplace. This makes it easy to change the look of the bottom of the fireplace from time to time. Simply pull out the plastic sheeting and wrap up its contents, so it can be discarded.

Carve out a hole in the rock, shell or sand bed and nestle the gel fuel canister into the hole. Push more rocks, shells or sand around the canister, making sure not to get these materials in the canister. You can also nestle a pillar candelabra, which has circular trays made for wide candles, in the bottom of the fireplace. Instead of placing pillar candles on the trays, place gel canisters on them.
