Instructions

Consider the color of the walls in your stairwell. Painting is one of the easiest ways to provide the biggest impact. A bright or bold color can make a statement in your small stairway and create a focal point in the room.

    • 2

Hang paintings or photographs on the walls. Stairways often have a large expanse of wall, and provide a perfect spot to hang family photos, a collection of similar paintings or other artwork that brightens your home.

Place a runner on your steps. Runners cover up old or unattractive flooring and renew your stairs' appearance without taking up space. Make sure your runner is securely fastened to the steps to prevent danger of falls.

Set a plant, statue or small decorative table near the base of your small stairway. Any of these will add a touch of interest and show off your style. Be certain not to block access to the stairs.
