How to Decorate a Room With a Vampire Style

Films and television series such as the "Twilight" saga, "True Blood" and "The Vampire Diaries" have sparked an interest especially among young people in all things vampire. This doesn't mean, however, that the only way to create a vampire-themed room is with "Twilight" posters and "I Love Vampires" motifs. A vampire theme is a great way to create a super sleek, sophisticated and darkly sexy space.

Arrange the color palette for your room. The overall look should be dark, but this doesn't mean you have to restrict the use of colors to black. Team one black accent wall with deep, rich colors such as blood red or deep purple. Shades of gray and cream lift the color scheme, and prevent the decor of the room vanishing in the dark, without creating too much of a light, airy atmosphere.

Dark wood paneling provides a rich, decadent feel, while faux stone paneling gives a realistic effect for the more adventurous, who are wishing to capture a true "crypt" atmosphere.

Add heavy, ornate furniture with dark wood and lacquered black finishes to create a gothic, vampire feel. Vampire-themed furniture includes casket couches, coffee tables, book cases and display cabinets. These themed items make a wonderful focal point in any room, but don't overdo it or the focus will be lost.

In the bedroom, a dark wood four-poster-bed complements a Vampire theme. Alternatively, a wrought iron bed with elaborate scroll work is a more budget-friendly option.

Use fabric to add texture to the room. In the bedroom, turn the bed into a romantic focal point with heaps of pillows and cushions, silk or satin bedding, and a soft, draped fabric canopy. For a slightly more modern feel to the room, use funky vampire-print bedding.

Heavy materials such as velvet are ideal for window dressings in any room, and tables should be dressed with table runners to draw the eye. Dining tables can be layered with a black tablecloth with a red table runner, and red and gold placemats. Couches and chairs can be covered with throws and cushions of different textures, colors and patterns, such as plain velvet, satin and baroque-patterned pieces.

Complete the look of the room with the addition of accessories. Remember that a few well-selected pieces can complement the finished look, whereas too much makes the room appear tacky. A single red rose on a small table with two vampire-themed wine glasses completes the romantic feel of the bedroom, and artwork ties the theme together in any room.

Candles are one accessory you don't have to be quite so restrictive with, cram them onto surfaces, and stand candelabra on tables and around the room. When lit, this amount of candles brings the room to life. Finish with a large, ornate mirror and a small-themed piece such as a coffin wine holder or alchemical skull keepsake box.
