Color Palette

• A bedroom that has two occupants will have more furniture and accessories than if there was only one occupant. Using a light, neutral color on the walls will help prevent the room from looking cramped and cluttered. This is also the best choice if both girls have very different tastes. • This is an area where each girl can express her own tastes. Matching bedding creates a neat, uniform appearance, but this is not always possible. However, different colored bedding can be tied together with something as simple as a small cushion. If one girl's bedding is black and one is pink, place a black cushion on the pink bed and a pink cushion on the black bed. Rugs on the floor also help differentiate the two sides of the room, while adding texture and depth. Simple canopies also offer extra privacy and can be easily created with ceiling hooks and a soft, draped fabric such as tulle or gossamer.

Accessories

• Each bed should have its own lighting either in the form of a wall-mounted light or table lamp. This will allow one girl to continue reading or working while the other sleeps. Underbed storage boxes are a great space-saving way to keep things separate, organized and out of sight. Cork boards allow each occupant to display notes and photos neatly without covering the walls, and art work also helps tie both sides of the room together. Bean bags are a handy space-saving way to create extra seating for visitors. They are available in a range of sizes.
