Look at the size of your apartment. Take measurements with a measure tape. Figure out where the windows are and if they will impede with a sectional sofa. Find out if you have enough space for both a sectional and a bed or just a sofa.
Shop for different types of sectionals. If your apartment has very limited space, consider getting a sectional that has a built-in bed. Examine different sizes of sofas. Measure the dimensions of the sofas you like and write them down. Compare them with the size of your apartment.
Choose an armless sectional to keep the space open and make it easier to navigate. A contemporary or modern design will help the decor look minimal and tidy. Choose a sofa in a similar color as the wall to coordinate and blend it in so your apartment looks larger.
Place the sectional in the middle of the room if it is a larger apartment or against the wall if it is a tiny space. Place the chaise or long extensions away from a common walking area as this can make it difficult to move around.
Decorate around your sofa. Choose a large padded ottoman to serve as a coffee table and double as additional seating or storage area. Keep pillows, throws and other accessories at a minimum to avoid cluttering the space.
Add no more than three different colors to your apartment's decor. Too many colors will give your space a wild and uncoordinated feel. Limit your use of patterns as well.
