How to Cut a Lined Curtain in Half

A lined curtain refers to curtains that have an extra layer of fabric on their backside. This extra layer of fabric allows your home to be more energy efficient. The lining can both insulate your home better by providing a greater thermal protection, making you less reliant on central heating, and can block the over-heating rays of the sun from the interiors of your home, making you less dependent on the air conditioner. If you need to cut your lined curtain in half to reduce the size, do so strategically.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the curtain from the curtain rod. Lay it in front of you on a flat surface, such as a clean floor, with the lining facing up.

    • 2

Smooth out all the wrinkles from the curtain. Measure the curtain's length or width, depending on which way you want to cut it in half. Note the halfway point with a piece of chalk.

    • 3

Draw a line with a yardstick and a piece of chalk straight through the curtain's halfway point.

    • 4

Cut along the chalk line with a pair of extra-sharp shears, making a clean cut. If the shears aren't sufficiently sharp, they won't be able to make a clean cut through the two layers of fabric.
