How to Make a Linen Shower Curtain

While some people hang a plastic shower curtain in their bathroom and call it a day, those same people could drastically alter the look of their bathroom in a good way with a fabric shower curtain. A fabric shower curtain softens the look of your shower, and allows you to enhance your color and design scheme with a greater dynamism of shade and texture. A linen shower curtain adds a fresh, crisp detail to the bathroom, and there's no reason why you can't make one yourself, even if you're a novice sewer.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of linen so it is 72 inches by 72 inches. Turn it face down on your work surface.

    • 2

Fold each edge on the top, bottom, right and left sides 1 inch inward. Insert pins every 2 to 3 inches to hold these hems in place.

    • 3

Sew the hems in place by hand with a tight, tiny running stitch, or use a sewing machine. Remove the pins as you sew.

    • 4

Lay the fabric in front of you on the work surface. Mark the spots for where the cord ties go with a piece of chalk. Start 1 inch from the left edge and mark each spot approximately 6 inches apart.

    • 5

Cut a small hole with a utility knife and insert a 6-inch piece of silk cord through each hole. Tie each cord in a knot or bow around the shower curtain rod. Burn the edges of the cord lightly with a lighter so they don't unravel.
