How to Adjust a Ruffled Crib Skirt

Creating a welcoming, cozy crib is a joy for most parents-to-be. A vast array of beautiful bedding sets are available in retail stores and online. Crib skirts are often included as part of the bedding ensemble. These skirts, often referred to as crib dust ruffles, complete the look of the crib's bedding. Crib skirts are placed under the mattress and drape down over the sides of the springs or slats, extending nearly to the floor. Ruffled crib skirts tend to be full and billowy. Putting on and adjusting a crib skirt is a simple process that can done in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the mattress, crib sheet and any other bed covers from the crib to expose the built-in springs or wood slats under the mattress. Set the mattress aside.

    • 2

Lay the crib skirt over the springs or wood slats so that the center of the crib skirt lies appropriately lengthwise and widthwise. Follow the manufacturer's package instructions.

    • 3

Pull the crib skirt's drop panels down over the sides of the springs or slats toward the floor. Fit the skirt's open corners around the crib frame legs on the appropriate sides and ends of the crib.

    • 4

Straighten and smooth the crib skirt on the surface of the springs or slats. Work around the sides and ends of the crib, adjusting the crib skirt so that the panels hang equally, with each panel measuring the same distance from the floor to the bottom crib skirt edge.

    • 5

Place the crib mattress back in the crib. This holds the skirt in place.
