Titanic Bedroom Idea for Kids

For the young person who's a budding history buff, the story of the Titanic's maiden voyage sparks the imagination. To accommodate your kid's growing interest in the Titanic, create a bedroom that takes its inspiration from the luxury oceanliner. From the images of a shipboard romance to the real life photos of the night to remember, there are plenty of Titanic-related items to choose from to accomplish this task.
  1. Documentary Wall

    • The abundance of photos of the Titanic both before and during its sinking are some powerful images and would create a dramatic Titanic documentary wall. You have a couple of options available to you to accomplish this task. If there's one photograph in particular that your child likes of the Titanic, have that photograph enlarged and made into a photographic wall mural. If there are too many photos for your child to choose from, create a photo montage on the wall, framing the best photos from the newspapers and museum reproductions.

    Ocean Voyage

    • The Titanic had a rich array of furnishings and outfittings --- enough to provide inspiration for a whole room decorated in Titanic items. Start by painting the walls a light blue. Accent the windows, closet doors and other trim with red paint. Buy navy blue wool blankets for the bed. Hang vintage Titanic posters put out by the White Star Line on the wall. Place an old wooden steamer trunk with the travel stickers still on it at the end of the bed. Set up wooden deck chairs to create a Titanic-inspired sitting area.

    Collectibles

    • Titanic collectibles appeal to both younger and older kids interested in the history of the Titanic. For the aspiring sculptor or engineer, there are toy model ships; besides various models of the Titanic, you find model kits for other ships such as the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors. If your child likes smaller collectible items, put together Titanic-related shadowboxes. Include items such as the Titanic commemorative coin, decorative pins, Titanic luggage tags or a replica of the necklace Heart of the Ocean, worn by Rose in the movie "Titanic," and which she eventually threw into the ocean.

    Movie Poster Collection

    • Many kids who know about the Titanic have become familiar with it because of James Cameron's 1997 movie about the ship. To create a decorating scheme that will appeal to these kids have different "Titanic" movie posters framed. Look for posters for not only the American release of the film, but also movie posters from releases around the world, as well as lobby cards for the movie. Create a focal wall to show off this poster collection by painting the wall a vivid color such as midnight blue. Take advantage of the focal point that the bed creates by painting the wall behind the headboard in the accent color. Hang the framed posters above the bed.
