How to Make a Cute Room for a Girl

A cute room is suitable for a wide age range, from that first "grown-up" bedroom when the crib makes way for a bed, to the tween years when the toys make way for a study area. Creating a cute room is a project that you can let your imagination go to town on, and there are plenty of budget-friendly decor options, too.

Instructions

    • 1

Decorate with a specific theme. There are lots of cute themes to choose from, such as butterflies, polka dots, stars, cupcakes, fairytales, pink and flowers, to name just a few. Think about what your daughter really loves, whether it's cats or dancing or sweets or princesses, and create a theme around that.

    • 2

Select the color scheme. If you decide to create a theme, the theme will influence the color palette, especially if you choose a theme such as "pink." In this case, choose plenty of different shades, from dusty pale pinks to bright pinks. Alternatively, create a cute color scheme by combining cherry red with white, soft green with cream, lilac with rich purple or cornflower blue with soft yellow. For small rooms, keep the walls neutral and create one accent wall with stronger hues and faux paint effects.

Use wall art to create interesting focal points around the room. This is an ideal solution for adding interest to a small room, where the walls have been kept neutral. The child's name written in ornate script, cute pictures with words from nursery rhymes, themed words such as "dance," motivational quotes and sayings are just a few of the available options to enhance a girl's room.

Give old furniture a new look with white paint to create a cute country chic style. Stencil details onto the furniture such as flowers, stars, ladybugs or a subject that fits with the theme of the room.

    • 5

Create a beautiful canopy over the head of the bed. Attach a circular gossamer hanger to the ceiling over the bed and drape it with a soft, luxurious looking fabric such as tulle. Another option is to hang fairy lights around a comfy-looking padded headboard.

Search for cute fabrics such as polka dot, floral or gingham prints. Combine different fabrics, textures and prints for visual interest. Pile pillows, cushions, luxurious comforters and throws onto the bed. Add a cushion to desk or dressing table chairs, and cute and funky floor rugs.

Decorate the edges of a cork board with bright ribbon to create an attractive area to display photos and pictures, and jazz up plain photo frames with beads, sequins or paper craft flowers. If the room lacks the space for a dressing table, place a shelf underneath a mirror and attach wall pegs to hang jewelry and hair bands from to create a cute little "grown-up" dressing area.
