Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of your curtain rod down to the floor. Add 2 inches to this length. Measure the width of your window. Write it down.

    • 2

Cut a piece of fabric that is your designated length and either 56 inches wide or 74 inches wide or 92 inches wide. The width your choose simply depends on how wide your windows are and how wide and bunchy you want your drapes to be. For example, if your windows are 36 inches wide, then you'll be best off with a cut that is 56 inches wide or 74 inches wide; 92 inches is definitely going to be too wide. However, if your windows are massive and 50 inches wide, you'll be best off with a 74- or 92-inch cut.

    • 3

Take your piece of fabric and fold it in half vertically, making a vertical crease right through the middle. Cut along this crease.

    • 4

Place your two identical pieces face down and create 1 inch hems all around each rectangle, holding the hems in place with pins distributed every 2 to 3 inches.

    • 5

Cut a 1 to 2 inch piece of fusible tape. Replace one of your pins with a piece of tape, slid in tightly against the fabric. Continue this all around all sides of each piece of fabric, until you have replaced all the pins with pieces of fusible tape. You will have to use more than one piece for each corner, because after you tack the first hem down, when you fold the second side, you will be folding the previous hem over once more.

Heat a steam iron over medium heat and run it over the edges of each curtain, allowing the fusible tape to form a strong bond. Make sure you use the steam setting.

Attach curtain rod clips to the top of each drape, spacing them 5 to 6 inches apart.
