How to Make a Day Bed Out of a Regular Bed

A daybed refers to a twin-sized bed, which when made up, resembles a sofa, allowing you to display it in areas of the home that you wouldn't normally keep a sofa, such as in an office or living room. If you have an extra twin bed in your household that you don't often use, converting it into a daybed gives you an extra couch that you can turn into an additional sleeping space at a moment's notice. You don't need to be a master carpenter or builder to make such a simple conversion.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty wall
  • 2 twin headboards equal height
  • Screw driver or drill
  • Daybed mattress cover
  • 1 rectangular bolster pillow
  • 1 round bolster pillow
  • 4 throw pillows

Instructions

    • 1

Move the bed to an area where there is a great amount of empty wall space. Push one of the long sides of the bed flush against the wall.

    • 2

Examine the bed. If the headboards are the same height, leave them. However, on some beds, one headboard is higher than the other, in which case you'll need to unscrew the taller headboard and replace it with a twin headboard of equal height. If the bed has no headboards, screw in two headboards of equal height.

    • 3

Place a day bed cover on top of the mattress of the bed. This will cover the sheets and bedding in a smoother, thicker more durable manner than a comforter or any other comparable bed coverlet.

    • 4

Place one rectangular bolster pillow against the empty wall. Stack another round bolster pillow on top of it.

    • 5

Place two large throw pillows against the inner portion of the right and left headboards. Angle them outwards so that each side of two pillows is on a slight diagonal.
