How to Build a Unique Bookshelf

Nearly every home could use more shelf space. Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew all the hardware from each drawer. Spray each drawer thoroughly with an all-purpose cleanser. Wipe down each drawer with a sponge, removing all dust and dirt. Allow the drawers to air dry.

    • 2

Attach a piece of 100-grit sandpaper to the bottom of an electric sander. Run the sander along the surface area of each drawer, removing the old finish. Repeat with a sheet of 220-grit sandpaper. Run a handheld vacuum cleaner around the surface area of all the drawers, sucking up all the dust from the sanding.

    • 3

Dip a 3-inch nylon brush in oil-based primer and prime each drawer. Allow them to dry for four hours.

    • 4

Dip the brush in an oil-based paint color of your choice and cover the drawers with an even coat of paint. Allow the drawers to dry overnight.

    • 5

Measure the length and width of each drawer. Cut pieces of wallpaper to these dimensions. Cover the bottom of each drawer with a light coat of wallpaper paste. Press each sheet of wallpaper onto the paste and smooth out all air bubbles and wrinkles with a credit card.

    • 6

Stack the drawers on top of each other and side by side until you create an arrangement that you truly like. The drawers' inside bottoms should be facing you, with the sides of the drawers acting as shelves.

    • 7

Screw the new shelves into the wall by drilling in a screw into the four corners of each drawer with a handheld drill.
