Octagon Entryway Ideas

Be inspired in your decorating by the shape of your octagon entryway. Use the geometry of the space as a guide when choosing the elements of your interior design scheme. Find items that mimic and complement the architecture of the space itself. Do not overlook the smaller details that will make your vision complete.
  1. Flooring

    • Create a pattern on the floor of your entryway that mimics the octagon shape of the space. Options include having octagon-shaped tiles covering the entire area in your choice of colors, with or without extra design embellished on them. Another idea is to lay down your favorite solid flooring and placing an octagon inset right in the center of the room. For example, install a traditional square-tiled white floor with a large, colored, octagon-shaped tile in the middle. When installing hardwood, create an octagon in the center of the room with a different colored stain than the rest of the floor.

    Ceiling

    • Look up for additional opportunities to mimic the shape of the space. Install an octagon-shaped medallion on the ceiling under any light fixture. Other options include tiling the ceiling to match the octagon pattern on the floor. For more of a cohesive punch, install a light fixture that contains octagon shapes in it. For example, use a chandelier with octagon shaped prisms or globe shades in your choice of decor colors.

    Walls

    • Installing octagon-shaped windows, even small decorative ones, help re-create the architectural shape of the space on the walls. Replacing existing windows with stained glass that has the geometric pattern in their design is another option. Other ideas to bring the shape around the space are through octagon-shaped picture frames and mirrors. Create your own custom octagon artwork to be framed if you cannot find a piece that fits your decor tastes.

    Furniture

    • Invest in an octagon entryway table and a custom cover that brings the octagon shape into more detail. For example, custom tailor a table cover that pleats at every edge so the octagon shape is seen all the way down to the floor. Customize chairs and benches by painting or staining the shape of an octagon on the seats. Another option is to cover the chairs with fabric that contains octagons and add throw pillows to benches made from the same fabric.

    Accessories

    • Hang custom curtains made from fabric that contains an octagon pattern to tie regular rectangular windows into the design scheme. Sun-catchers and wind chimes in the shape of octagons is another option to add geometric drama and color to windows. Other accessories to bring into your entryway in the shape include candle holders, baskets for keys or mail and shelves for storage.
